SCRAMBLE: In a return to the Golf Course it was a strong field that took the tee box for the monthly Billabong Scramble.
A solid front nine produced 3 birdies for a 33 and the team was bouyed in the knowledge we were there or thereabouts for the top spot.
With the highest score of the day being a scorching 63.5 - which would have been in the prizes on any other day - we took the turn under no illusions - this would have to be a special day...
The THAI sun belted down and the team rose to the occasion with Birdies on 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17.
On the 16th green team anchor and fellow Australian, Archy, drained a 30 foot putt for the birdie -This drew the Tournament with high fives all round.
At the base of the 17th green the ramp up to the ridge and slippery slope down past the pin and into the bunker looked like a 3 putt or 'the beach' any day of the week. All 45 foot of it.
Returning from injury and playing a meaningful role in the teams success had already delighted me - great company, a great Golf Course, what could usurp this?
As the sweat ran down the spine of my nose I saw it hit dead centre on the putter, the setup was good, to be sure of it.
As the putter swept back and forth on the velvet green the 'sweet spot' connected and the savvy was away. The ball peaked on the ridge with nearly a dead weight and then started its descent toward the pin, or the bunkers in the valley behind.
Stay on target, stay on target and 4 golfers with 4 caddies willed from every angle for the ball to break and pull ever closer to the hole - and then BOOM SHAKALAKA - the Marser Blarser was back with a close out Birdie - That won the Tournament.
All up it was a 57 gross - 15 under the card with a 5 stroke HC - Thanks to Bob Philp for the day.
