We knew immediately as we stood around the 1st tee that this was going to be a hot and humid day. The heavy rain over the last few days, and more recently last night, left the course very wet and resembling a quagmire in many areas and many golfers suddenly acquired the skill to impart back spin even on their fairway woods. The general opinion was that the course was playing at least 500 yards longer for only 3 out of 32 golfers bettered their handicap. In the ladies, Miss Nu came 4th with 28 points someway behind Miss Pin who drifted off the pace on the back nine with `13 points but only 1 point behind Miss Prae who had 3 blobs after the turn well behind the day’s winner Miss Porn helped by two 4 pointers in the last nine holes. Sel Wegner upped his game after the turn with 19 points in 4th place just behind Keith Allen who had his best day for a while with 35 points despite only 4 points on 4 holes coming home. Michael Anderson had 20 points on the back nine for 37 points. But the winner, for the second week running, was Wayne Cotterell who started three putting the first three greens but, after some stern words from Cottee, the putter behaved and he accumulated 7 pars and a birdie for 39 points. 2s went to Miss Eng, Jeff North and George Barrie who claimed that it could have been an expensive day for he just missed a hole in one.
