Haven Day

A beautifully, sunny day today at Green Valley so clear that from the top of the course you could see for miles (or is it kilometres) and for anyone that thought golf was just a walk in the park, a strong wind made its’ presence felt to remind us that bunkers and water are not the only problems we must face. It was good to see Brian Chapman, the CEO of Haven Consultants who are the long term sponsors of the Billabong monthly medal, make his first appearance on a golf course for three months and he admitted to being cream crackered at the end. The ladies competition is a tough school for Miss Prae (36) felt pleased, as she should, with her round of net 67 carding a net 32 on the back nine only to finish in third place losing on a countback to Miss Lynn (8) who dropped shots on only 1 hole on the outward journey with 6 pars and 2 birdies. She continued her brilliant round at the turn carding a gross 75 but missed out as the winner by 1 shot to Miss Porn (20) who had 7 pars in her round with a net 66. As usual the men could not compete with those scores for 3rd place was occupied by William Macey (21) who, perhaps, might have expected a better round but for double bogies on 4 holes on the way home and a net 71. But he was relegated to 3rd by his opponent in the same fourball, Wayne Cotterell (14), who left his ball 6 inches from the pin on the 18th with his second shot to edge into 2nd place with a net 70 but his treble bogey on the 10th contributed to missing out to Sandy Chapo (23) who pulled his socks up at the turn bettering his first 9 holes score by 4 shots to finish with a net 69 and 1st place. Surprisingly, there were no 2s today.
