STABLEFORD

You would not believe the recent change in the conditions at Green Valley in the last 2 weeks. 14 days ago the fairways were, following consistent heavy rain, almost under water in many areas and so wet in others you could have backspin with your fairway woods. Today, we are all looking like proper golfers with the ball running freely with GIR figures looking quite respectable as the scores confirm. In the ladies comp, Miss Am had a great front nine with 23 points but three 1 pointers and a blob on the back gave her 38 points and 3rd place losing to Miss Porn on the same score and 4 pars and a birdie with 19 points on the way home ensured 2nd place for her. But the star of the moment is Miss Eng who carded the more than 40 points for the second week running aided by 9 pars in her round. The men were tightly bunched at the top of the leaderboard with Wayne Cotterell losing out to Jeff North on 37 points , 2 blobs on the back nine doing his chances no good at all for 5th place. Tony Oakes thought his day had come with an eagle on the 1st hole for 5 points and 23 points on the way out but he might have been thinking of the chances of Man United beating Juventus at the turn with only 5 points in the first 5 holes which was overshadowed by Peter Thomas, who did the opposite to Tony, with a big turnaround at the turn for 2nd place and 38 points. A new name at the Billabong,Craig (Grassy) Green, took the honours today with a very steady round and 40 points with 20 points on each half.. Unusually, there were no 2s today.
