Eastern Star

STABLEFORD

Due to Green Valley being occupied by the Singha Championship this week, the Billabong regulars played at Easter Star which I have not done for a long time and I was surprised at the changes that have been made to the changing rooms. New lockers and new showers are superb with room to move around and to be able to change in comfort. The course was in excellent condition with greens that were, unusually, fast but Eastern Star is not an easy course and with a boisterous wind accompanying our every move, why is the wind always in your faces and not at your back, there was danger lurking along every fairway. As a result the scores were not overly impressive for 3rd place was occupied by Lloyd Shuttleworth (5) on 34 points mainly due to four 1 pointers on the front nine. Eddie Bielby (18) had 22 points on the way out but, for some reason, the brakes went on and blobs on the 10th and 18th holes kept his score to 37 points and 2nd place. George Way (23) had only 2 points from the 8th hole to the 11th but from the 12th the wind caught his sails and he finished with 22 points on the way home and a total of 38 points.
